Thomas Thorson

Thomas Merle Thorson, age 81, of Eleva passed away on September 3, 2026, at Mayo Healthcare System – Eau Claire after a brief illness.

He was born on March 1, 1945, in Mondovi, Wisconsin to Merle and Yvonne (Borgwardt) Thorson. Tom graduated from Mondovi High School with the class of 1963, and on June 24, 1965, he was united in marriage to Jane Johnson. Two sons were born to this union, Dale and Greg. Jane preceded Tom in death on April 10, 2016, after 50 years of marriage.

Tom worked in the Maintenance Department at the University Wisconsin – Eau Clare for almost 30 years retiring in early 2002. He was not one to sit idle, after retiring from UW-EC, he was employed by the City of Eau Claire Street Department and then worked part-time plowing snow for the Town of Washington. He left these duties in 2015 to care for his wife.

He loved time in his shop fixing and repairing small engines. He was always willing to lend a hand fixing things for his friends and neighbors who relied on his expertise.

Tom will be greatly missed by his sons, Dale Thorson and Greg (Bobbi) Thorson; his grandchildren, Cloe Thorson, Tylor Thorson, Bailey (Nick) Strenke and Hannah Thorson; two great-grandchildren, Penelope and Juniper; three brothers, John (Jane) Thorson, Jerry (Cindy) Thorson, and Ricky (Mary) Thorson, and many other friends and relatives.

Preceding Tom in death were his parents; his wife; and his daughter-in-law, Teresa Thorson.

A memorial Service will be held on Friday, September 11, 2026, at Talbot Family Funeral Home – Mondovi Chapel at 1:00 PM with Michael Isaacson, S.A.M, officiating. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM at the funeral home until the hour of service. Tom will be laid to rest at Trinity of Norden Cemetery following the service.
