Terry Lee Glanzman, 78, of Mondovi, Wisconsin, passed away on May 14 , 2026 at Luther/Mayo Hospital , of anaplastic thyroid cancer. He was born on February 23, 1948 at Gillette Hospital in Mondovi, to Oliver (Bud) and Phyllis (nee Moy) Glanzman. Terry was subsequently baptized and confirmed in the Christian faith, which remained a comfort and strength to him throughout his life.
He attended Mondovi Grade School at Devaney, a one-room school in 1954 and 55. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1966. As a scholarship recipient, he attended the National 4-H conference in Chicago in 1966.
He then attended the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, graduating in 1971 with degrees in Wildlife Management and Forestry.
Following graduation, he enlisted in the US Army, serving as a musician. He attended music school in Norfolk, VA, then played trombone in the First Cavalry Division Band at Fort Hood, TX.
Following discharge in 1973, he was employed part-time by both the Town of Mondovi and the US Postal Service, before transitioning into his 29 year career as a rural mail carrier. He enjoyed being outdoors during the day, as well as being of service to others. He was diligent about ensuring timely deliveries in all weather-even one day returning home with his bumper in the back seat. A local farmer had pulled him out of a two foot drift!
Terry retired from the US Postal Service in 2003 and devoted the remainder of his life to his passions:
Terry continued to play his trombone in civilian life as a member of both the Eau Claire Municipal and Concert Bands. He also performed with other ensembles-Mondovi Christmas and 4th of July bands, brass bands at church services and theater pit bands in the area. Music was a life-long passion.
As a tenor, Terry also was a decades-long Barbershopper. He sang with the Eau Claire Diplomats of Harmony as well as in the quartets the Midnight Watchmen and State Street. In 1983, the Midnight Watchmen were Land o’ Lakes District runners-up.
From the age of 14, Terry constructed and monitored bluebird nestboxes, fledging thousands of bluebirds during his lifetime. In 2016, he received the Joe O’Halloran Lifetime Achievement Award from the Bluebird Restoration Association of Wisconsin.
On May 18, 1985, he married Jean Doris Stellner in a ceremony at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi. During their marriage, the couple enjoyed gardening, canoeing, cycling, traveling, birding, hiking, classical music and participating in Mondovi Area Community Theater.
Terry is survived by his wife, Jean; siblings Shelley (Dan) DalPra; Scott (Cathy Reuben) Glanzman; Becky (Chuck) Forster;
Gary (Alina) Glanzman; Mary (Randy) Carlson; and Jeff (Nancy) Glanzman; and by brother-in-law Jim (Michelle) Stellner; many nieces and nephews as well as grand-nieces Emelia Stellner, Theo and Piper DalPra and grand nephew Thomas Miller. Preceding him in death were his parents Oliver (Bud) and Phyllis Glanzman and sister Nancy Glanzman.
The service of Remembrance and Victory will be held Sunday, May 24 at West Creek Event Center, Eau Claire. Visitation will be from 2-4, Victory and Remembrance Service 4-5, with luncheon to follow. A private gathering for immediate family will occur from 7-9. Private dispersal of cremains will occur at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Nature Conservancy or the Landmark Conservancy. Or you may plant a tree, in honor of Terry’s lifelong love of the natural world and his dedication to preserving it.
