Shirley Ann Weiss, age 90, passed away peacefully on April 23, 2026, surrounded by her family at The Homeplace Assisted Living in Mondovi, WI.
Shirley was born October 21, 1935, to Fred and Margaret Engler. She attended Davis Valley School and Gilmanton High School, graduating with honors in 1953.
It was at Gilmanton High School where she met her high school sweetheart, Milan (Mike) Weiss. On June 22, 1957, they were married. They then moved to Rochester, MN, where they welcomed their first daughter, Jackie. In 1960, they returned to Gilmanton, WI, and began their dream of working together, owning and operating their dairy farm. Shortly after, they welcomed their second daughter, Lori.
When her daughters were young, Shirley enjoyed gardening, canning, raising her family, and helping on the farm. As her daughters grew older and became interested in 4-H, Shirley became the Oak Grove 4-H Club Leader for many years. Along with that, Shirley worked in the barn, feeding calves and milking cows. When extra hired help was needed, Shirley always made sure they were well fed. Despite how busy she was, Shirley still found time to keep an immaculate home and yard.
After Shirley and Mike retired, they became Nikken and Amway representatives, where they gained satisfaction in helping others. Shirley worked at New You Toning and Tanning Shop owned by her sister, Barbara. In her later years, she enjoyed taking care of her lawn, watching her bird feeders, and spending time with her family. Shirley took pride in mowing her lawn until the age of 87.
Shirley was witty with a good sense of humor and enjoyed sharing laughs with her family. Shirley was a great cook and well-known for her famous potato salad. Other family favorites included macaroni and cheese, pizza hotdish, and various desserts. Her family can also never forget her love of cats.
Shirley will be deeply missed by her children: Jackie (Bruce) Christ of Gilmanton and Lori (Sam) Reidt of Alma, grandchildren: Heather (Chris) Kedrowski, Chelsey (Jordan) Mendkoff, Jacob (Kimberly) Reidt, Rebecca Reidt, Kelly (Ryan) Welke, and Katie (Herman) Fasbender; great-grandchildren: Michael, Matthew, Owen, Norah, and Sammy. She is survived by her sister, Barbara Plank, sisters-in-law Dorothy Plank and Diana Weiss and brothers-inlaw Marlin Plank and Dan Weiss, and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Milan (Mike) Weiss, parents, Fred and Margaret Engler, sister, Marilyn Rose Engler, in-laws Lawrence and Fern Weiss, brother-in-law LaMar Plank, sister-in-law, Diane Goeldner, brother-inlaw, Hal Goeldner, and nephew Jacob Goeldner.
The family would like to send a heartfelt thanks to the staff at The Homeplace Assisted Living and St. Croix Hospice for their special care and support provided to Shirley and her family.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 11:00 am. with Pastor Jacob Bilicke presiding at Talbot Family Funeral Homes in Mondovi with a visitation being held one hour prior to service. Burial will follow at the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Mondovi, WI.
