He was born in Pittsburgh to Russell Sr. and Rose (Johnson) Spencer. Russell had very humble beginnings. He had an unmatched work ethic since his early years. His first job was as an usher at Carnagie Music Hall, and he later worked in the area steel mills.

Russell met the love of his life, Marjane Ralph, on a blind date where they attended a Pittsburgh vs. Norte Dame football game. Russell knew that she was the one. They married on September 28, 1963 and together raised two children Robert “Rusty” and Jennifer.

Russell was a man who was intrigued by facts and knowledge. He was a lifelong learner who encompassed the theory of “knowledge is power”. In his early years, Russell, taught himself DOS, Disk Operating System, which was one of the first operating systems of computers. As a proud member of MENSA, he attended Carnegie Mellon University and obtained a Mechanical Engineer Degree. He then attended the University of Pittsburgh and earned a Master’s of Business Administration.

Russell was always chasing a challenge, striving for success in everything he underwent. He was employed by Westinghouse, which became NCS, and moved his family throughout the country.

He had a variety of interests and hobbies that he enjoyed in his free time. He loved to read, as well as play golf, cribbage and chess. He was also a collector of American Muscle Cars.

Russell was a very humble, modest man, who had a strong commitment to his family. He will be missed dearly by his wife Marjane; Son, Robert “Rusty”; Daughter, Jennifer (Tim) Stuber and their children, Sam (Emily), Max, and Alex; Sister, Rose Ann (George) Zimmerman, her daughter Aimee Arnold and her children, Kaleb and Averi.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
