Ronald "Ron" Amundson

Ronald Amundson, 85, of Mondovi, passed away on Monday, July 27, 2026.

Ron was born on July 25, 1941 to Rayder and Doris (Tweed) Amundson. He was raised in Northfield, Wisconsin and graduated from Hixton High School.

Immediately after graduating, Ron began what would become a remarkable 43-year career as a cheesemaker in Alma Center, Wisconsin. Though the cheese factory changed ownership several times throughout the years, Ron remained a dedicated and dependable employee, retiring from Foremost Farms prior to its closing.

Ron married Sue Anderson, and together they raised three sons: Cliff, Dale and Elvin. Although Ron and Sue later divorced, he found love again when he married Kay Casey. Ron lovingly welcomed Kay’s children, Angela, Anthony and Amy into his heart as his own. Following Kay’s passing in 2007, Ron was blessed with the companionship and friendship of Bonnie Arnold and her family, Lynette, Bruce and Laura.

Ron was a humble man with a gentle spirit. He was quiet, reserved and easy to get along with. He was a man of few words who shared his genuine caring character through his acts of kindness, a smirk, and a one-of-a-kind chuckle. He paid close attention to the world around him, faithfully recording daily temperatures, precipitation and gas prices in his spiral notebook that was always in his shirt pocket.

He found happiness in life’s simple pleasures. Ron enjoyed frequent visits to Porky’s Pub to visit with friends and have a cold Old Milwaukee. He also looked forward to occasional visits to Northfield for coffee or lunch with friends and family. He never missed an opportunity to stop at the Gilmanton Fair for its famous barbecue chicken or at the local Kwik Trip to get a Milky Way candy bar. At home, he also found peace in watching the hummingbirds and orioles at the feeders, completing crossword puzzles, and watching science fiction and programs about outer space. He was also a loyal fan who enjoyed cheering on the Green Bay Packers and Wisconsin Badgers.

Ron will be deeply missed by his special fried, Bonnie Arnold; his children, Cliff (April) Amundson, Dale (Kelly) Amundson, and Elvin Amundson; his stepchildren, Angela (Paul) Kotlarz and Anthony Laehn; his bonus children, Lynette (Pedro) Tejeda, Bruce Arnold, and Laura (Ramon Hernandez) Arnold; 22 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; his brother, Dennis Amundson; his sister, Wendy (Rob) Nelson; and many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his beloved wife, Kay; his stepdaughters, Amy Laehn and Angie Arnold; and sister-in-law, Barb Amundson.

A Celebration of Ron’s life will be held on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Talbot Family Funeral Home – Mondovi Chapel. Visitation will begin at 11:00 AM and continue until the time of service.
