Penny Lee Ashwell, age 57, of Mondovi, passed away on Sunday, June 15, 2014 at her home surrounded by her loving and devoted family.
She was born on October 6, 1956 in Mondovi, a daughter of Sanford and Agnes (Mengelt) Crandall.
Penny attended Mondovi schools, graduating from Mondovi High school with the class of 1975. She continued her education at the UW-Eau Claire and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in social work.
On August 25, 1984, Penny was united in marriage to the love of her life, Charles Ashwell. Together, they were blessed with two wonderful children, Zachary and Ashley.
Penny was a faithful member of Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi. Where she offered her time and found fulfillment as a Sunday school teacher.
Penny, in her early years, worked at Mondovi Hardware and most recently for Gemini Cares, helping to provide supportive home, personal, and respite care for the elderly in the area.
For 13 years, while Penny was raising her own children, she provided in home day care services for other children.
She enjoyed fixing and repairing…or trying to fix or repair things around the house. She was once told she took after her dad, Sanford who was known as the “Jack of all trades” so, of course, Penny then took on the moniker of the “Jill of all trades”.
She was an extremely creative lady who loved to decorate and sew. Her children still remember the clothes she had made them.
Penny will be forever remembered as the steadfast, unconditional Matriarch of the Ashwell family, the true rock which held her family firmly in harmony and love.
Penny has placed so many memories in the hearts and minds of her family and those who were lucky enough to have known such a lovely lady.
Penny will be forever missed by her husband of almost 30 years, Chuck of Mondovi; her son, Zach (Lacey) of Chippewa Falls and her daughter Ashley (Cody) LaDuke of Mondovi; her precious little grandson, Reid Laduke and one little grandchild on the way; one brother, Jeff Crandall of Mondovi; also by her step mother; step siblings, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many dear and devoted friends.
Besides her parents, Penny was preceded in death by her aunts Barbara Crandall and Shirley Bergner.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 21 at 11:00 AM at Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi, with Pastor Rolf Morck officiating. Enurnment will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi.
