"God took the man and set him down in the Garden of Eden to work the ground and keep it in order.”– Genesis 2:15 (MSG)
Louis “Bobcat Louie” Duellman, age 91, peacefully went to his Lord and Savior on February 28, 2026. He was currently living and receiving care at the Tomah VA Medical Center. Born to the late Hilarion and Anna (Hoeppner) Duellman on May 10, 1934, he will be dearly missed by his family, friends, and the many customers of Louis Earth Moving and Landscaping, Inc.
Louis is survived by his children, Debra (James) Moren, Steven Duellman, Jeffrey Duellman, and Paul (Margret) Duellman; sisters, Jane Fish and Ruth Leahy. His memory lives on with seven grandchildren, Christopher, Dionne and Matthew, Jonathon and Jennifer, Mandy, Alex; ten great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Louis was preceded in death by his loving wife of 63 years, Nancy (Ledden) Duellman; brothers Tom, Elmer, and Robert; and sisters Helen Gabrick and Ethel Schuth.
Like his older sister, Helen, he left the Catholic School in Fountain City after 8th grade to help support the family when their mother passed at the early age of 41. His formal training was quickly replaced with a real-world education of practicality, resourcefulness, and hard work. These early experiences would carry him through his whole life.
Before turning 19, Louis joined the Army and served during the Korean War. He completed three years of active service on January 1956 and returned home to Fountain City, working at the local meat market and doing road work for Buffalo County. It was shortly thereafter that he courted and married Nancy Ledden. Together, they created a home and raised their four children. Although Louis worked many hours during the week, the family prioritized attending Catholic mass on Saturdays and making Sundays a Duellman “Family Day.”
Louis began a new venture in the late 1960s, purchasing a Bobcat skid-steer and founding Louis Earth Moving and Landscaping. His successful business continues to thrive six decades later due to his skill, endless work ethic, and well-known gift of gab with customers. Off hours would find Louis butchering and processing meat on the side. No one made better venison sausage, and he knew it!
Louis was a self-made man, a teacher of perseverance, and a wonderful storyteller. Tales of rattlesnake hunting, good deer hunts, and trout fishing were always ready to be told. His big smile, giving nature, and boisterous voice will be remembered for generations. Rest in peace, Bobcat Louie!
A special thank you to the Tomah VA Medical Center for the care provided to Louis prior to his passing.
