Leroy Asher

Leroy Edward Asher, age 77, of rural Independence, WI passed away on Sunday, May 4, 2014, at Mayo Health System, Oakridge Hospital in Osseo with his family at his side. He was born on November 21, 1936, in Rock Elm, WI, to Roy and Evelyn (Borst) Asher. In August of 1965, Leroy was united in marriage to Marion Kriesel. To this union three sons were born. Leroy was a longtime and faithful member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Mondovi. Leroy was a farmer, a true and dedicated farmer, for his entire life. He was known for one of the neatest and spotless farms in the area. Right down to the care of his herd where each cow tail was washed and combed out and all tractors meticulously detailed. Leroy was a man that would never give up. Whatever trials he faced, Leroy would persevere; pick himself up dust himself off all in the name of his family. He would work second jobs just to be able to provide for his family. After all, his work ethic was only seconded by his love of family. Leroy could never just sit around. He needed to be busy and being busy to him was working. Lately he was delivering fertilizer for Crossroad Ag in Strum and did work at Mondovi Canning as well. His sons will remember him as a true "John Deere Man" and lately his love of tinkering with them. Leroy was not only a true dad but also his son's best friend. Leroy will be sadly missed by his three sons, Richard of Strum, Wayne (Dawn) of Eleva, Douglas (Stacy) of Mondovi; five grandchildren, Ryan Asher of Eau Claire, Mackenzie Asher of Eau Claire, Jacob (fiancee, Kelsey) Asher of Eleva, Zoe and Carrigan Heinz of Mondovi; his siblings, Mary Crum of St. Paul, George (Carol) of Marshfield, Pat (Sharon) of Joliet, IL, Michael (Deb) of Fall Creek and Sara (Howie) McDonough of Eau Claire; his sister-in-law, Bernice Asher of Elmwood, and also by nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends. Leroy was preceded in death by his wife Marion, brothers, Richard, Steven and Thomas; and also by one infant sister, Theresa. A visitation will be at Talbot Family Funeral Homes in Mondovi on Thursday, May 8 at 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. A mass of Christian Burial will be at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Mondovi on Friday, May 9 at 11:00 a.m. with an hour of visitation prior. Burial will follow at Sacred Heart Cemetery. The family of Leroy would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to both Mayo Health System Luther campus and Oakridge, Osseo along with the Strum Care Center for the unending and excellent care given to him during his stays. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.talbotfuneralhomes.com.
