Laverne Henry Eikamp “Ike” passed away May 15, 2025 at Marinuka Manor in Galesville, WI. Ike was born May 16, 1924, in Cochrane, WI to Fred and Hattie (Herold) Eikamp. Ike attended grade school and high school in Cochrane, graduating in 1942. He was student manager for the Cochrane basketball team for 4 years of high school and enjoyed working with the team and also the friendly ribbing between himself and his sister who was an Alma High School Graduate. Ike was an active member of the boy scouts for many years, starting at age 12, in 1936. Ike helped his dad with the milk route and trucking business until he joined the Army in August 1944 and was sent overseas from San Francisco, California for active duty in New Guinea and the Philippines, on the island of Luzon, from there to Japan. He was honorably discharged in October 1946 from Seattle, Washington and then to Fort Sheridan and back to his beloved hometown of Cochrane.

Ike bought the trucking business from his dad in 1947 and also got married to Grace Barrett of Alma, Wisconsin on May 24, 1947 at the parsonage of St. Paul and St. Lukes United Church of Christ in Alma. Ike met Grace in Alma when he and some of his buddy's went cruising around Alma and they met some girls walking down the street by Stohr's Funeral Home, of course he had to be friendly and stop and ask to give them a ride home, and that led Ike and Grace to more dates and then marriage. Ike and Grace lived upstairs in their present home for some time, and they moved downstairs. Ike and Grace, his soul mate and secretary, operated the Dairy Truck business from 1947-1970 hauling milk in cans and then in tanker trucks for Cochrane Creamery and Wisconsin Dairies of Waumandee. He also hauled livestock to the stockyards in Winona and South St. Paul and brought merchandise back for local businesses, when Ike sold the trucks, he worked for the local lumber mill below Cochrane and also in Winona for several years before he retired. Ike was an active member of the Cochrane Fire Dept., Lions Club and the VFW for about 35 years. He was a Color Guard in celebrations, parades, and funerals. Ike was very proud to be a part of the VFW for his country and his town. Grace and Ike were faithful members of Hope United Church of Christ in Cochrane. Ike is survived by his daughter Jane (Rich) Scholl, grandson Cory Scholl, great grandson Ike Scholl, and sister Ivaneille Thering. He was preceded in death by his wife Grace, son Terry Scholl, and grandson Todd Scholl. Laverne ''Ike'' was always willing to help anyone and enjoyed his village, his home, his family, and his friends. Thank you, Ike, from all of us. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at 11:00 AM at Hope United Church of Christ in Cochrane with Rev. Dr. Deborah Kunkel officiating.
