Junior L Larson

Junior Louis Larson, 97, passed away peacefully on October 7, 2026 at Gundersen St. Elizabeth Care Center, Wabasha, Minnesota. He was born on May 23, 1929 to Leonard and Mamie Larson in Iron Creek, Alma, Wisconsin. Junior went to elementary school in Trout Creek and St. Boniface. He graduated from Arcadia High School in Arcadia, Wisconsin with the class of 1947. He married Helen Bautch on April 19, 1955 in Independence, Wisconsin. They spent their life raising their family in Buffalo City, Wisconsin.

As a child he was an enthusiastic and dedicated farm boy. Being a farmer was his chosen lifestyle. But first, Junior served his country from 1952 – 1954 during the Korean War. He stayed stateside doing the important task of training the war dogs that went to Korea to support our soldiers. He came back with an appreciation of dogs and continued to conduct dog obedience classes in our community. After discharge, Junior returned to the farm, his home, sweet, home. He worked alongside his dad on the farm as his dream job. His farming days were cut short after rolling over his John Deere tractor suffering life threatening injuries. Junior became an operator at Dairyland Power Cooperative, Alma, Wisconsin where he remained for 36 years. He was also a skilled woodworker. His proudest accomplishment was building a beautiful home, by himself, with not much more than a hammer and shovel. That house was filled with love as they welcomed Gary, Cindy and Tim to their family. Junior continued his handiwork making beautiful furniture and toys for his family and friends. If you had a picture or an idea, he could make it. He also was a guy that invented many things made from his ideas. He could literally make or fix anything. As he would say he could fix anything but a broken heart. Junior also had a 1946 John Deere H that gave him many hours of enjoyment. He loved having a reason to get out “Johnny” to do some mowing or anything he could find to play with his tractor. He was excited to give his grandchildren rides as they waited to be able to drive it. He was adored by his grandchildren. He made them all feel like they were his “favorite.” He was an honest, loving, hardworking man who loved his family.

He is survived by his children, Gary (Jane) Larson of LaCrescent, MN, Cindy (Tom) Cyert of Cochrane, WI, Tim (Karla) Larson of Eagle Lake, MN, grandchildren Nicki (Jeremy) Johnson, Barrett (Angie) Zeller, Eric (Sherri) Larson, Chris (Michelle) Larson, Katie (Jeff) Larson, Bailey (Jesse) Hilt. Great grandchildren Lauren, Leyton and Lucas Johnson, Piper, Ty, and Arianna Zeller, Jordan and Kyle Larson, Arthur Larson and Frances May, sisters Darlene Slaby and Alice Breitung. He was preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents, granddaughter Bethaney Zeller, brothers Marvin, Kenneth, Duane, sisters, Lucille and Joyce.
