Joyce Christine Serum

Joyce Christine Serum, age 70, of Altoona, WI valiantly fought to survive several surgeries and procedures for over six months.  She peacefully passed away on Wednesday, November 22, 2023 at Mayo Clinic, St. Mary's Campus Hospital in Rochester, MN surrounded by her family members.

Joyce was born on August 14, 1953 to Marvin and Leone (Forthun) Serum in Mondovi.  She was welcomed into a loving, supportive family of seven siblings.  Six siblings were later added to the family.  Joyce always loved being part of Marvin and Leone's brood of 14 children all starting with the letter "J" from Modena, WI.   Joyce was baptized and confirmed member of Modena Lutheran Church.  

After graduating from Mondovi High School in 1971, she moved to Eau Claire and took classes focusing on the medical field.  She worked in various medical facilities in Eau Claire, Appleton, Waukesha, Milwaukee and back to Altoona where she resided for over twenty years.

Joyce will be remembered for her love of her family and her humane heart towards animals, especially dogs.

Joyce is survived by her siblings, Jon (Linda), Jim (Debbie), Janet (Gordy) Hoffmann, Judy (Daryl) Hoch, Jean (Jay) Grimm, Jolene Ressie, Jill (Bob) Olson, Jerry (Christy), Jackie, Joel (Elsie), Jennifer (Jim) Sundin and Justin, as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and special neighbors and friends.

Joyce was preceded in death by her parents, Marvin, and Leone; brother, Jay and her two forever and faithful fur companions, Maggie and Einstein.  

A memorial gathering will be at Modena Lutheran Church, Modena, WI on Thursday November 30, 2023 from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service at 1:00 PM with Chaplain Gary Preston officiating. Inurnment will follow at the Modena Cemetery.
