John N Steiner

John N. Steiner, age 61, of Gilmanton, passed away on Thursday, September 3, 2026 at Mayo Health System, Osseo.

He was born the son of Robert N. and Betty J. (Klopp) Steiner in Mondovi on October 24, 1964.

John attended and graduated from Gilmanton High School with the class of 1983, where he was an active FFA member, serving as president his senior year and was Prom King, with his Prom Queen being none other than his future wife, Ann.

On April 14, 1984, John married his high school sweetheart, Ann Bjorgo, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gilmanton. To this union, they were blessed with three sons.

John worked at Barth Trucking until he purchased the family farm from his parents in 1993. John, along with his wife and sons, worked the farmland and milked cows until April 2009. Even though John sold off his cows, he still raised heifers and leased the tillable land to other area farmers just so it would remain agricultural, beneficial and respected, just like it was by his father, Robert.

John drove for Weiss Trucking and worked part-time at Countryside Ace Hardware in Mondovi while also driving a school bus for the Gilmanton School District. These positions were more than just jobs to John; they were outlets to converse with farmers while on his milk hauling route or to greet customers with a smile at the hardware store. Driving the school bus was his way to stay in touch with his Gilmanton roots, which he loved. Even during the days of milking cows, John welcomed friends who stopped by the barn to chat and maybe even share in an occasional “cold one”. All these different jobs weren’t jobs to John; they were ways to connect with others and share in his “gift of gab”. John worked hard with the goal of providing a nurturing home filled with the necessities needed, especially love. His family would like to say he accomplished his goal.

One day, John found a special spot on the farm, high on a hill overlooking the land and proudly built a cabin for his family to enjoy. Deer hunting seasons were less about the hunt and more about spending time inside the cabin making special memories with family and friends. One of John’s most special times was the quiet days alone on the front porch with his wife, Ann in the rocking chairs watching God’s work. Their cabin was appropriately named, “The Steiner’s Hideaway”.

John will long be remembered for the love and passion he had for his wife, sons and grandchildren. His legacy will forever live on in their hearts.

John will be deeply and forever missed by his beloved wife of 42 years, Ann; sons, Derek Steiner, Drew Steiner and Dylan (Cheyenne) Steiner; his precious and adored grandchildren, Hattie, Wade, Eve and Benson Steiner; sisters, Rita (Rich) Hayter and Julie (Jeff) Kacures; brothers-in-law, Gary (Lynne) Bjorgo and Mark (Julie) Bjorgo; also, by numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Besides his parents, Bob and Betty, John was preceded in death by a precious grandson, Conrad Steiner; sister and brother-in-law, Mary Jane and Bill Lisowski; and parents-in-law, Iner and Edna Bjorgo.

Funeral services for John will be held on Wednesday, September 9, 2026 at 5:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, Mondovi with Pastor Luke Pederson officiating. A visitation will be held at the church on Wednesday from 2:00 PM until the hour of the service.
