John Christ Lisowski

John Christ Lisowski, age 87, of Alma, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, April 14, 2016 at his home. He was born on January 10, 1929 the third of six children to Peter and Olga (Konsela) Lisowski. John attended the Woodland Bluff School and Catholic Parochial School. Upon completion of school, John started working on his uncle’s farm for $1 per day. John would then follow his family when they purchased a farm in Jahn’s Valley near Cream, WI where John’s passion for farming would grow. One evening, while at a dance, John had his eye on a young lady named Lorna Huber. Little did he know she would become the love of his Life. In 1951, following a three year courtship, John and Lorna were married. To this union, seven children were born. They later welcomed, with open arms, two-year old Mary Kurtzweg to the family. Farming, undeniably, was in John’s blood. He enjoyed working the land, growing his dairy farm with his family at his side, and driving the big tractors. He found great joy and pride competing in the tractor pulls at the Gilmanton and Buffalo County Fairs, especially, when his JD 520 would beat the Super M’s. John was a progressive man for his time buying farms as they became available. By the 1970’s he owned 2,600 acres and operated a large dairy farm naming it “Little Poland Farms”. He also had started “Little Poland Farm Supply” selling implements, tires, seeds and other farm supplies. John enjoyed the comradery with fellow farmers and people in general and had a reputation of honesty and fairness. He would instill those same values of integrity and strong work ethic in his children. Later, John and Lorna sold the farm and built a new home in retirement. During retirement, John and Lorna could be found kicking their heels to “The Rhythm Playboys” a favorite polka band of theirs. John was an avid outdoorsman and processed venison for several years. John was a longtime and faithful member of St. Lawrence Catholic Church and was a charter member of the Alma Council Knights of Columbus 6789. He was a Knight since 1961, 55 years. John was a man of faith and family, dedicating his life to their wellbeing. One of his greatest passions was grilling chicken for the many family gatherings and celebrating life events with those he knew. John was most happy in the company of his family and was looking forward to his and Lorna’s upcoming 65th Wedding Anniversary. John will be sadly missed by his wife, Lorna; children, Bryce (Mary), Dennis (Diane), Lolly (Dean) Thompson, Dianne (Jim) Erickson, Leslie (Sharie), Pat (Amp), Mary (Rich) Bauer; 25 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; two brothers, Raymond “Butch” (Sandra) and Jerome “Sonny” (Karen) and sister in law, Vivian; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents, John was preceded in death by his daughter, Bonnie; grandson, Christopher, brothers, Jake and Robert and sister, Ann Konkel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, April 23, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church, Alma. Cremation will follow with burial at a later date. A time of visitation and support for John's family will be held on Friday, April 22, 2016 from 4:00 PM until ending with a Rosary service 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel and again on Saturday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the Mass all at the church.
