John L. “Jack” Martin, age 74 of Nelson, passed away on Thursday, June 4, 2020 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire. Jack lived with Parkinson's for the last few years. He was born on November 13, 1945, in Minneapolis, MN, the son of Arthur and Rose (Jasper) Martin.
Jack was a proud Marine Corp Veteran serving in Vietnam. He worked in Minneapolis for the United States Postal Service. Then in the early 90’s, Jack and his wife, Marlene settled to a peaceful life in Nelson. He and Marlene enjoyed the beautiful countryside on their Harley Davidsons. Jack was an avid reader and loved watching sports on television.
Jack will be sadly missed by his wife of 32 years, Marlene; children, Michael Martin, Maureen Flanagan, Lisa Silva and Nathan Poltiske; grandchildren, Jasmine, Abigail, Claire and Brecken, Seth and Layla and Isabella; sister, Donna (Don) Shand; numerous nieces and nephews; furry companions; other relatives and dear friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Jane O’Rourke; son, Timothy Martin and many Marine Corp. brothers.
A memorial gathering will be held at the Nelson Community Center on Saturday, June 20, 2020 from 3:00 – 6:00 pm. Jack will be laid to rest at a later date at Fort Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis, MN. Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel is assisting the family.
