Joan H. Runions

Joan H. Runions passed away September 6, 2023 at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center.  She was born August 4, 1925 in Clinton, Iowa to Frankling and Elenor Smith. She married John T. Runions on August 6, 1949. Joan worked in the banking industry until she had to train a male employee who made more money than she did.  She then worked at Carson Pirie Scott in the billing department in Chicago, IL.  She supported her husband while he attended art school.  John and Joan moved to Alma, WI in 1974 where they operated Riverside Gallery, Polin and Tester Mercantile and Bed and Breakfast Gallery House at 215 N Main Street in Alma.  Joan was very active in the Alma Historical Society and the Alma Area Museum.  She was also an avid quilter.  Joan is survived by her children, Nancy (Terry) Sorchy in Brodhead, WI, John D. Runions in Bartles, OK, Janet Runions in Wabasha, MN, Thomas (Val) Runions in Alma, WI, and numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.  Joan was preceded in death by husband John T. Runions, grandson John D. Runions, Jr., and granddaughter Erin Runions Loechler.  The family wishes to thank Gundersen St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center, 300 wing for their care and compassion.  Talbot Family Funeral Homes – Scenic Rivers Cremation Center assisted the family.
