George W. Moats, a cherished family man, dedicated veteran, and devout Christian, passed away peacefully at the age of 94 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi, Wi under the care of St. Croix Hospice, on March 22 . Born on May 26, 1931, in Modena, Wisconsin, George's journey through life was marked by his loving nature, handy skills, and unshakable faith. George was united in marriage to his beloved wife, Carol Peterson, on November 26, 1955, at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi. Together, they built a life filled with love and shared values. George's commitment to his country was evident as he proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War from 1953 to 1955. After his honorable service, he and Carol moved to South Milwaukee, where George worked as a skilled welder for Bucyrus Erie. Following a layoff, they returned to Mondovi, where George continued to demonstrate his expertise as a machinist at Jackson Lumber Harvester until his well-deserved retirement. A life member of the American Legion and VFW, George took great pride in his service and continued to give back by serving as Commander for both organizations. His dedication to his community was further reflected in his long-standing membership at Central Lutheran Church, where he actively participated on the church council, contributing to the building of the new church—a testament to his faith and commitment to service. George's legacy is carried on by his loving son, Rod, and daughter-in-law, Michelle; his adoring grandchildren, Jena Miller, Kristine (Justin Barbee), Julia Moats, Aaron Blomdahl, and Kayla (Justin Davis); and his treasured great-grandchildren, Hayden and Tyler Miller, Wyatt and Walker Barbee, Kendall Keith, Jolene and James Davis, and Jackson Davis. His light will continue to shine through them as they remember his stories, wisdom, and the warmth of his presence. He is also survived by his sisters, Grace Peterson and Barb Cleasby; brother, Donnie Moats; sisters-in-law, Doris Prissel, Barb Charpentier, Joan Timm, Donna Peterson, and Mavis Storberg; and many nieces and nephews who will miss his guidance and gentle spirit. George was preceded in death by his wife, Carol; Parents Ralph and Marie Moats, Inlaws Peter and Stella Peterson, Sister, Fay Ehlert; Brother, Harold Moats; Brothers-in-law, Howie, Duane, and Merle Peterson, Bill Prissel, Bob Timm, and Jim Charpentier; Nieces, Geri Sessions, Toni Ehlert, and Monica Peterson Brantner; Nephews, Rick Prissel and Todd Ehlert; and grandson, Dustin Keith. George's family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to Mayo Health, St. Croix Hospice, and the entire staff at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi for their compassionate care during his final days. A visitation will be held at Central Lutheran Church in Mondovi, on Monday March 30, 2026 at 9:00 AM until the time of service at 11:00 AM where friends, family, and fellow veterans can come together to celebrate George's remarkable life. His story is one of unwavering love, faith, and service—a true testament to the man he was. George W. Moats will be deeply missed, but his spirit will forever be a beacon of light for all who had the privilege of knowing him.
