Ellen L. Stiehl

Ellen L. Stiehl, a beloved member of the Alma community, passed away on August 11, 2023, at Gundersen St. Elizabeth Hospital. Born on June 14, 1947, in Wabasha, MN, Ellen was the daughter of Elroy and Lois (Cole) Averbeck.   She was lovingly dedicated to her family and friends throughout her remarkable life.

Ellen began her career at Alma Area Schools and spent many years working in the food service department. Her commitment to the students extended beyond the cafeteria as she also coached volleyball during her tenure. Ellen's impact on the Alma community through her work at Alma Area Schools will be remembered for generations to come.

Outside of her professional life, Ellen had a passion for leisurely activities. She enjoyed watching the Hallmark Channel and devoted an hour each day to following the captivating storyline of Days of Our Lives during its earlier days. Additionally, Ellen found solace and joy in golfing with her friends. Their outings were often accompanied by laughter and cherished memories that will forever be treasured.

Ellen received her education from Alma Area Schools before graduating with the class of 1965. She then pursued further studies at Buffalo County Teachers College, completing a two-year course that enhanced her skills and knowledge in education.

In building a life filled with love and companionship, Ellen married Richard Stiehl. Their union brought them immeasurable happiness until Richard's passing. Together they raised their children and created a warm home filled with love and care. Sadly, Ellen also experienced the devastating loss of their daughter Pam Fink. The memories shared between them continue to be held close to heart.

Survived by her son Patrick (Joanne) Stiehl, Ellen leaves behind a lasting legacy in the form of four beloved grandchildren: Tyler and Trevor Fink, Mikayla and Brayden Stiehl. Her dedication to family extended beyond her immediate relatives, as she is survived by three sisters: Holly Stiehl, Wendy (Charles) Mikelson, and Linda (Kim) Brantner. Ellen's influence and love also reached her nieces, nephews, other relatives, and countless friends.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 11:00 AM at St. Lawrence Catholic Church.  Burial will  follow at Alma Memorial Cemetery.  A visitation will be held on Thursday, August 17, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel and again at the church on Friday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the Mass.

Ellen's departure leaves a void in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. Her kind spirit and unwavering dedication to others will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to have crossed paths with her. As we mourn her loss, let us also rejoice in the cherished memories that bind us together in love and remembrance.
