Elizabeth Ann Poeschel

Elizabeth Ann Poeschel, of Mondovi, WI, peacefully passed away on June 25, 2026, at the American Lutheran home in Mondovi. She was born on July 10, 1942, to Arthur & Irma (LaDuke) Dregney of Mondovi, WI and was the eldest of seven children. She graduated from Mondovi high school in 1960 and furthered her studies at vocational college for hairdressing.

On September 30, 1961, Elizabeth was united in marriage to her soulmate, Dennis B. Poeschel. They started their life adventure together by moving to Great Falls, MT and growing their family with a daughter, Ann, and son, Michael. Dennis’s job brought more adventure into their lives as they moved from Montana, to South Dakota, Minnesota, and finally settling in North Dakota to raise their family.

In addition to raising her family, Elizabeth worked for First Federal Bank before becoming a proofreader for the ND Legislative Council. She and Dennis were active members in the Bismarck BlueLine Club, the Elks Lodge and Moose Lodge, and Good Shepherd Lutheran Church. Between cross country and track meets, band concerts, and hockey games, Elizabeth never missed an opportunity to cheer on her children. They were the joys of her life. Upon retirement, they settled back in Wisconsin while wintering in Mesa, AZ, where they enjoyed family and lifelong friends from all over the USA and Canada.

Elizabeth had a zest for life and her smile extended kindness and love to each person she met. In her words, she has never known a stranger - just people she hadn’t met yet. She was a people person and brought light to any room she entered. There’s nothing she loved more than polka and country music dancing, a good Friday night fish fry, traveling the world, golfing, time spent with her family and friends, and watching her beloved Wisconsin sports teams. Anyone who knew Elizabeth knows that she always game for a little mischievous fun.

Elizabeth’s legacy will continue through shared stories and memories by friends and family. She is survived by her daughter, Ann (Chris) West, Grafton, ND, three granddaughters, Katie (Michael) Poeschel Seaton of Oconomowoc, WI, Elizabeth (Ben) West Soderholm of Stillwater, MN and Molly Anne West of Grafton, ND; her two greatgrandchildren, Serenity & Kingsley Seaton and a new great grandson due in October 2026. Elizabeth was preceded in death by her husband, Dennis, her son, Michael, her parents, Art & Irma Dregney and sister, Barbara Dregney , her father & mother-in-law, Clarence and Gertrude Poeschel, as well as her special friend & dance partner, Steve “Shooter” Wernlund.

A celebration of life will be held at Central Lutheran Church on Thursday, July 2, 2026. Visitation will take place from 10:00am-12:00pm with service beginning at 12:00pm. Following the service, lunch will be served Elizabeth style at Buzz’s Bar & Grill with pizza, beer, lemonade, coffee and homemade goodies. And of course, there will be polka and country music playing. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any memorials be made to American Lutheran Home Mondovi or Central Lutheran Church in memory of Elizabeth.
