Edward Allen Gunderson, age 76, of Mondovi, passed away in the early morning hours of Saturday, October 18, 2025 at Mayo Health System in Eau Claire, with his loving family at his side. Ed was born on December 17, 1948 at the Gilette Hospital in Mondovi to the late Harry A. and Marilyn J. (Burgan) Gunderson.
“Eddy” as many of his dear friends would remember him, was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Gilmanton. On June 20, 1970, he married his high school sweetheart, Virginia “Ginny” Goss at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi, and to this beloved union, Ed and Ginny were blessed with three children.
Ed was raised on the family farm in Dover Township, attended Gilmanton High School, graduating with the Class of 1967. He furthered his education at UW-Eau Claire, earning his bachelor’s degree in business administration and accounting. After five years as the Credit Manager at Co-op Equity in Mondovi, he was hired as the General Manager at Marco Co-op in Marathon, WI. In 1988, he moved back to Mondovi to become the Assistant Manager and later General Manager of the Co-op Equity, which eventually became Countryside Co-op after several mergers.
He valued relationships with customers and employees. His Co-operative career gave him the opportunity to be a Regional Manager with Cenex-Land O’ Lakes in the Pacific Northwest where he trained Co-op directors and guided them as they hired general managers. Managing one more local co-operative in Hillsboro, brought Ed and Ginny back to Wisconsin and eventually home to Mondovi to retire but not fully. His passion for cars and vehicles led him to drive new trucks to various locations for Saxon Fleet Services.
Ed also cherished his family. His greatest joy in life was spending time with his children and grandchildren who regularly gathered for Christmas and July 4, often at the Barn Again Lodge in Bennett Valley.
As a follower of Jesus and faithful member at Zion Lutheran, he served in many roles, Treasurer, President, Elder and Sunday School teacher. He enjoyed singing and sang with Zion’s Choir through last spring. In college, he sang with the Singing Statesmen and in retirement he sang with the Dunn County Barbershoppers. He was one of the early members of the Conservation Club and belonged to the Lions Club.
Ed will be sadly missed by, and forever in the hearts of his beloved wife, Ginny Gunderson, of Mondovi; his children, Sara Gunderson, of Eau Claire, Michael (Stacia) Gunderson, of Surprise, AZ and Hannah (Steve) Weispfennig of Yankton, SD; grandchildren, Anyssa (Dominic), Luke, Selah, Clara, Hope, Timothy, Faith, Grace, Melani and Avi; great grandchildren, Leo and Millie; sister, Mary Lou (Rick) Norby; also by nieces, nephews and many dear friends.
Besides his parents, Ed was preceded in death by a younger brother Roger and his stepfather, Leonard Maier.
A funeral service for Ed will be held on Friday, October 24, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Zion Lutheran Church, Mondovi. Burial will follow at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi. A visitation will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2025 at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi Chapel starting at 4:00 PM. There will be a time for all, as we come together to share a heartfelt memory of Ed, starting at 6:45 PM on Thursday.
