Edward Oliver Amdahl of Nelson, WI passed away peacefully the morning of Saturday, December 6, 2025, at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center in Wabasha, Minnesota.
He was born on July 25, 1928, to Ole and Eda Amdahl in rural Nelson, Wisconsin. When he was just 16 years old, he took over the family farm after his father’s death. On January 25, 1969, he married Arlene Breidung, also from rural Nelson. Together, they had two daughters, Janice and Marilyn. Edward was fondly known as “Edwee” to his family, given that name by his great nieces, Allison and Megan Reinhardt, who were like grandchildren to him. He loved his family deeply and never missed the chance to make memories and play games with his nieces, nephews, and granddaughter.
Edward was a lifelong farmer, harvesting crops throughout the year with his brother-in-law, Leonard. He lived his entire life in rural Nelson, moving just across the road from his homeplace after he was married. After retiring from farming, he worked for Buffalo County Housing up until he was 80 years old shoveling snow and mowing lawn. He had a love for animals of all kinds and continued to feed the birds, squirrels, and cats on the farm for as long as he could.
He was a faithful man, baptized and confirmed at Lyster where he was a lifelong member. He was an active member in Luther League, served on the Church Council, was a cemetery trustee, sang in the church choir, and played dart ball.
He is survived by his wife, Arlene; daughters, Janice and Marilyn (Scott) Braunreiter; granddaughter, Abby (fiancé Justin Gappa) Braunreiter; nieces and nephews, Edith (Gary) Ruff, Paul (Judy Steffen) Enstad, Lois (Paul) Reinhardt, Dale (Jan) Enstad, Jane (Keith) Johnson, Ruth (Wally) Hustad, Mary (Kent) Hoffman, George (Kris) Weaver, Mark (Bobbi Jo) Enstad, and Cheryl (Bill) Lasiewicz; many great nieces and nephews; brother-in-law, Jim (Lynne) Weaver; and his cat, Sigrid, and grand puppy, Maverick.
Edward was preceded in death by his parents, Ole and Eda; sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Leonard Heltne; twin sister and brother-in-law, Ann and Oscar Enstad; sister-in-law, Eunice Weaver; in-laws, Harry and Leona Breidung; and many other family members, friends, and pets.
Edward’s family extends a heartfelt thank you to the staff at St. Elizabeth’s Health Care Center and St. Croix Hospice for their kind and compassionate care throughout the past four months.
We will honor the wonderful life Edward lived with a visitation starting at 10:00 am up until the funeral service at 12:00 pm on Friday, December 12, 2025, at Lyster Lutheran Church in rural Nelson, Wisconsin. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Talbot Family Funeral Homes of Alma assisted the family. www.talbotfuneralhomes.com
