Duane D. Deutscher, age 94, of the Town of Drammen, Eau Claire County, passed away peacefully in his sleep on Wednesday, August 9, 2023 while under the care of Mayo Home Health and Hospice. 

Duane was born on March 2, 1929 to the late John and Karen “Carrie” (Nelson) Deutscher on the family farm, west of Mondovi.  While growing up there, Duane went to Harvey grade school and attended Mondovi High School, graduating with the class of 1946. 

He met Florence Olson at an old time music dance which was above the bowling alley in Mondovi.  That meeting would blossom into love and they were united in marriage on September 19, 1953.  They moved to Eau Claire. To this loving union, two daughters were born.  

In their early years of marriage, Duane had several jobs, including a 9 month job at General Motors in Janesville. He also worked 6 years at the US Postal Highway Service.  He eventually acquired a job at Uniroyal in Eau Claire and worked there for 32 years, retiring in 1991.   

During his retirement years, he took many trips out west to destinations like Yellowstone Nat. Park, Rocky Mountain Nat. Park, Glacier Nat. Park, the Black Hills and Badland Nat. Park along with several trips to Branson, MO.  For their 50th wedding anniversary, Duane and his wife along with daughter Paula and her husband Jeff traveled to Huatulco, Mexico.   

Duane is survived by his beloved wife of almost 70 years, Florence; two daughters, Paula (Jeff) Fisher and Susan (Costa) Dimitracopoulos; grandchildren, Dustin (Sarah) Fisher, Shane Fisher, Travis (Laura) Fisher, Nathan (Heather) Fisher and great grandchildren;  Addisyn Fisher, Bennett Fisher, Wyatt Fisher, Jordyn Nance, Rachel Nance, Adisyn Nance and Ellie Buckingham; sister, Marlene Odegard; sisters in law, June Deutscher, Edith (Roy) Cleasby and Carol Sell; brother in laws, Dennis (Sharon) Olson, and Duane Bauer. Also by many nieces and nephews. 

Duane was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Berval Deutscher; mother and father in-law, Johnnie and Esther Olson; brothers and sisters in law, Everette Odegard, Leone Olson, Russell Olson, Doris (Earl) Hanson, Jerome (Donna Aiona) Olson, Violet (Dale “Bill”) Cleasby, Lorraine (Eugene) Bauer, Delores Bauer and a toddler Olson girl. 

Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2023 at 2:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi with Pastor Scott Johnson officiating.  Inurnment will be at Oak Park Cemetery, Mondovi at a later date.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 15, 2023 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi Chapel and again at the church on Wednesday from 1:00 PM until the hour of the service.  www.talbotfuneralhomes.com
