Douglas J. Ward, age 94, of Mondovi, passed away on Friday, January 26, 2018 at his home, the Log Cabin Airport in rural Mondovi, WI, the place that has been his pride and joy. He was born on May 10, 1923 in Mondovi, son of Jay and Eva (Standish) Ward. Doug was a veteran of WWII, enlisting for the Army Air Corps on December 11, 1942. He is credited with 37 missions in the European Theatre. A member of the 15th Air Force, 301st Bomb group in Italy and the 8th Air Force, 305th Bomb Group in England, he was a Ball Turret gunner on a B-17. He was honorably discharged on September 18, 1945 at Camp McCoy,WI. He was a rural mail carrier in Mondovi, WI for 32 years. Doug often attributed his longevity to a good, upbeat attitude and his wonderful friendship with Judie Ohm whom he met in 2001. They have enjoyed their journey together. Doug is survived by Judie Ohm of Mondovi, WI ; daughter-in-law Kimberly Ward, granddaughter Rachael (Daniel) McKeown, grandson Conrad Ward, granddaughter Taylor Ward, great grandson Kieran McKeown. He was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Jon and Bill Ward. A celebration of Doug's life will be held at the Log Cabin Airport, S149 Segerstrom Road, Mondovi, WI 54755 on Sunday, February 11, 2018 at 11:00. Lunch will be served following the service.
