David J. Evans

David J. Evans, age 88, of Buffalo City, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7 at St. Michael’s Lutheran home with his loving family at his side. He was born on March 5, 1923 in Waukesha a son of David L. and Sara (Omdoll) Evans. David attended Waukesha schools graduating from Waukesha High School with the class of 1941. He furthered his education at the University of Wisconsin at Madison, attending for a year and a half before returning home to help on the family farm after WW II began. On December 27, 1947, David was united in marriage to Jean Marty at North Prairie United Methodist Church, North Prairie, WI. And to this union three children were born. David and his wife Jean began farming on the Evans farmstead in rural Waukesha, moving from the farm in 1962, when they relocated to Presque Isle, WI and purchased the Evans Alpine Lodge. They operated the lodge for approximately 9 years. After the sale of Evans Alpine lodge, David and Jean moved to Manitowish Waters and became a very proud and successful licensed real estate broker retiring in the late 1980’s. following his retirement, For around 15 years , David and his wife wintered in St. George, FL. David was a long time member of the Lions Club, both in Manitowish Waters and Buffalo City. He was an over 60 year active member of the Hurley Masonic Lodge No. 237. While living in Manitowish Waters, David was a proud member of the Manitowish Waters Community Presbyterian Church. After moving to Buffalo City, He and his wife became members of St. John’s United Church of Christ, Fountain City. David enjoyed fishing and found solitude while spending time in his garden and was known for his wonderful garden in Buffalo City. He also found great solitude being by the waters in the different places he lived. David was an avid Wisconsin Badgers and Green Bay Packers fan. Right up to the end, he needed to know the final score of the Packer game. While up north, he enjoyed snowmobiling and ice fishing. David will be remembered for his humane heart and the love for his dogs and his pleasant personality. What David will be remembered for mostly is the love and devotion he had for his entire family. His love will remain in the hearts of all blessed to know him. David will be sadly missed by his wife of almost 64 years, Jean of Buffalo City; his three children, Donna (James) Hansen of Crandon, WI, Warren (Janet) Evans of Holmen, WI and Hale (Janet) Evans of Alma; six grandchildren, Jennifer (Jake) Sulik, David Hansen, Nicole Hansen, Eric (Nicole) Jandro, Heidi (Sean) Donahue and Clint Evans; seven geat grandchildren; one sister, Beth (William) Torbik of Virginia; also by nieces nephews other relatives and friends, especially his dear neighbor and friend Bob Liedtke. Besides his parents, one sister Nettie Ann Warren preceded David in death. A memorial service will be held on Monday, December 12 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ of Fountain City, WI with Pastor Gregory Ferriss officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date at Eagle Valley Cemetery. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held at the church on Monday from 9:30 AM until the hour of the service. In lieu of flowers, the family asks donations in the name of David Evans be directed to either St. John’s UCC or United Volunteer Care Givers, Independence, WI.
