Charles (Chuck) Allen Ede passed away peacefully at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi on December 2nd, 2023.
Chuck was born to Julian and Mildred Ede on July 12th, 1934, in Eleva. He had an incredible survivor’s spirit from his very first moments, when he was born premature at just 2 lbs. While many thought he would never live through the night, his Aunt Sadie was determined to help him beat the odds. She wrapped him in a blanket and placed him in a basket close to the wood-burning stove to keep him warm. Not only did he survive that sensitive first night, he was later a survivor of polio. His will to survive lasted his entire life, particularly these last few years. Those who loved him considered his life a story of miracles.
Chuck enjoyed growing up in Mondovi. As a teenager, he worked for his dad at Ede Motor Sales. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1953, and then went to the General Motors Institute in Detroit. Those experiences started a lifelong career in the automobile industry. He married Judith Ann Franz on December 20th, 1958.
After marriage, Chuck and Judy relocated to the Milwaukee area and were blessed with two children, Julie and Jon. Chuck spent several years working at Humphrey Chevrolet, and then he and Judy joined the team at Excalibur Automotive. He finished his career at Boucher Chevrolet. After retirement, he and Judy moved to their lake home in Birchwood, where they enjoyed fishing, bird watching, and making memories with their family and friends.
Chuck was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather (GG), brother, uncle, and friend. He adored his family, and made a point of spoiling his wife, children, grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. He enjoyed many adventures boating around Wisconsin lakes, especially when he was the Captain of the boat. He was an avid Packer fan, enjoyed watching golf, and loved to cheer on his favorite athletes.
He is survived by; brother, Don (Janet) Ede, daughter, Julie (Randy) Reed; daughter-in-law, Carolyn Ede; grandchildren, Casaundra (Rick) Mason, Morgan (Derek) Benjamin-Ede, Samantha Ede, and Michael Schmitt; great-grandchildren, Derek Hunter-Reed, and Drew Starr; all his special nieces and nephews; and many family members and friends.
Chuck was predeceased by his parents; cherished wife of 67 years, Judith (Franz) Ede; beloved son, Jon Ede; brother & sister-in-law, Edward & Joan Rivers.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, 679 Hehli Way, in Mondovi. Burial will be at Riverside Lutheran Cemetery. A visitation will be held on Saturday, December 9 from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service.
