Betty Hampton, age 83 of Buffalo City, WI died Sunday October 19, 2014 at her home. She was born on July 22, 1931 in Buffalo City, a daughter to Paul and Lavina (Fetting) Muench. After Betty’s birth parents passed away at an early age, she and her brother Harold, were adopted by Harvey and Estella Zeisse. On September 21, 1957 Betty was united in marriage to Basil Hampton. To this union, two children were born. Basil preceded Betty in death on August 28, 1980. While Betty lived in Milwaukee, she was employed at a tannery, AC Delco and St. Luke's Hospital. Upon returning to the Cochrane and Buffalo City area she worked at the Buffalo City Resort, Rudy’s Red Owl and Annie’s Café. She and her sister Marilyn started the North End Bar in 1964. Betty built, owned and operated the Village Gasthaus in Cochrane. She also worked as a cook at Buffalo Lutheran School and Winona State University, where she became a grandma to many of the children and students. Betty was a longtime and faithful member of Dr. Martin Luther Church in Buffalo City where she was an active member of the choir, the ladies organization and a Sunday school teacher, a life member of the Cochrane, Buffalo City VFW post #10402 Ladies Auxiliary and a member of the C-BC Lions Club. Betty was an instrumental community member that helped start the Scenic Valley Ambulance Service where she was an EMT and also served on the Cochrane Village Board. Betty will be sadly missed by her children, Yvonne (Jeff Cavin) Tamke of Fountain City and Dale Hampton of Buffalo City; grandchildren, Nathan (Carol) Tamke, Nicole (Dylan Coons) Tamke, and her “furry grandkids; her sister, Marilyn Beidermann; step-sister, Judy Neuwirth; also by nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives; her adopted grandson, Bradley James, special friend Lori Jewell and many other friends. Preceding her in death were her husband Basil, parents and brothers, Harold, Charles, Gerald, and Russell. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 22 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM at Dr. Martin Luther church and one hour prior to the service at the church. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, October 23, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Dr. Martin Luther Church, Buffalo City, with Pastor Mark Wilde officiating. Burial will follow at Buffalo City Cemetery.
