Ray Edwin Lawrence of Mondovi, WI passed away peacefully on Saturday, November 3, 2012 at Mayo Health Systems, Luther Campus, Eau Claire. He was born on April 9, 1928 to Ray and Verna (Davis) Lawrence on the Lawrence family homestead in the Town of Albany, Pepin County, WI where he lived his entire life. Ray attended grade school at the East Pepin School. Ray was a great outdoorsman, enjoying hunting, fishing and trapping. He also like to spend hours drinking coffee and shaking dice with his buddies at Blondies. Ray worked at the Russ Quarberg Farm hauling wood to town by bobsled. He also worked at Drumonds meat plant, Miller Bradford, Eau Claire Plumbing supply, Fehr Concrete and Presto all in Eau Claire. He worked many years at UW-Eau Claire from which he retired. Ray was a gun expert and avid gun collector. He was one of the first organizers of the Chippewa Valley Gun Collector Club. He truly enjoyed trading, collecting and attending numerous gun shows. Ray was a long time member of Central Lutheran Church of Mondovi and the Eau Claire Pioneer Club. Ray and his wife served as the Pioneer club king and queen in 2001. Survivors include his wife, Shirley of Mondovi, two sons, Larry of Mondovi, Jeff (Judy) of Menomonie; daughter, Connie of Eau Claire; grandchildren, Ian Gorman, Emily and Abbey Lawrence; one sister, Orma Spangberg of Eleva; one aunt, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Preceding Ray in death were his parents, two sisters Reathel Brantner and Elgia Kohlman two infant brothers and sister, Zelda. A memorial gathering will be held at the Poeschel-Talbot Funeral Home in Mondovi on Wednesday, November 7 at 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM and again one hour prior to the memorial service at 11:00 AM on Thursday, November 8 at Central Lutheran Church, Mondovi with Pastor Rolf Morck officiating. Inurnment will be held on Tuesday, November 6 (before the service) at East Pepin Cemetery. Condolences may be directed to www.talbotfuneralhomes.com.
