Lilie Alice Parker

Lilie Alice Parker, age 94 of Alma, WI passed away on Friday January 10, 2014 at Pepin Manor with her loving son at her side. She was born on January 20, 1919 in Alma to Ernest and Della (Meier) Fluekiger. On February 18, 1939, Lilie was united in marriage to Verlyn Parker in Winona, MN. Following their marriage, Lilie and her husband farmed close to his family in Vernon County. A few years later, they moved back to Alma and began farming on the Fluekiger homestead farm. When Lilie wasn’t at home caring for her family, she would work outside the home to help provide for them, as a cook at her sister’s restaurant, the Alma Hotel and at the Alma Area Schools. She would also do seasonal work at Huntzinger’s Farms and the Plainview cannery. Lilie was an avid gardener and was very proud of her strawberry patches. She enjoyed playing cards, especially on Mondays at the Alma Senior Center with her dear friends. Verlyn and Lilie were avid dancers and enjoyed attending polka and square dancing events. Lilie loved basketball and was so proud to have been able to follow her son’s career as both a player and coach. Lilie was a true “fanatic” of Bo Ryan’s Wisconsin Badgers basketball team. It has been said that she cheered so loud for her Badger’s that they could hear her in Madison. She was a good neighbor, but always said it was easy to be a good neighbor when you are surrounded by good neighbors. We will all remember Lilie for her gardens, her love of playing cards, the love she had for her grandchildren, and neighbors. Lilie was also known for her humane and loving heart she had for animals, especially her two beloved cats, “Tommy” & “Punkin” along with being a true, giving and loving mom and grandmother. Lilie will be sadly missed by her son, Robert of Alma; two grandchildren, Ginger (Matt) Engel of Lincolnshire, IL and Jayson (Erin) Parker of Wauwatosa, WI; six great grandchildren, Dylan, Tyler and Cayden Parker and Evan, Ramsey and Marni Engel; one brother, Walter “Buck” (Avis) Fluekiger of Alma and two nephews, Norbert Dienger and Lee Fluekiger. Also, by her three “special girls” Lynne, Karla, and Liz. Lilie was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Verlyn in 2005, her brothers Harry, Clarence and Raymond; sister Esther Dienger and Hilda Klatt; and nephew, Larry Fluekiger. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, January 14 at 11:00 AM at the Talbot family funeral home, Alma Chapel, with Thomas Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Alma Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, January 13 from 4:00 PM until 6:00 PM and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service all at the funeral home. Online memories or condolences may be sent to www.talbotfuneralhomes.com. The family of Lilie would like to take this opportunity to express their gratitude to the Mayo Hospice program, the entire staff at Pepin Manor and St. Elizabeth Medical center staff, especially Dr. Brian Kelly, for the outstanding service and loving care given to her. Memorials to honor Lilie may be directed to either Mayo Hospice at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Wabasha or the Pepin Manor recreation department.
