John Runions

John T. Runions, age 89 of Cochrane, passed away on Wednesday, September 14, 2016 at Sauer Health Care, Winona, MN. He was born on November 27, 1926 in Battle Creek, Iowa to Myron and Olive (Mumford) Runions. John was a WW II veteran in the Navy serving in the Atlantic and Pacific theatres. While attending art school in Chicago, John met Joan Smith and they were married in 1949. They raised their four children in Chicago where John worked in the commercial art field. John and Joan moved to Alma, WI, in 1974 to be closer to John's favorite painting subject matter; the Mississippi River and bluffs. He painted to his last days. John is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joan and his children; Nancy Sorchy of Brodhead, WI, John D. Runions of Bartlesville, OK, Janet Runions of Alma and Tom Runions of Alma; other relatives and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held at Wings Over Alma, to be announced at a later date. The family wishes to have any donations or memorials to be given to Wings Over Alma in John's name.
