Irene L. Crawford, age 94, passed away peacefully in her sleep, on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi, WI. She was born October 13, 1919 to Wihelm and Olga (Johnson) Thalacker in Eau Claire, Wisconsin. Irene was united in marriage to Lawrence R. Crawford in Salinus, California on May 15, 1942. Lawrence was then sent to Little Rock, Arkansas for Boot Camp. Irene followed, staying in a trailer camp until Larry was sent overseas, at which time she came home to Mondovi. They were united again in 1945 when Lawrence was discharged from the Army. Together they had 3 children, Ray, Steve and Terry. Irene was a stay at home “mom” for many years, thenshe became a Home Health Care worker for a neighbor; bartended for many years at the White Pig Tavern; and was the first meter maid of Mondovi. She was an active member of Our Savior United Methodist Church and it’s Auxiliary. She devoted many years to the American Legion Ladies Auxiliary and the VFW, holding the office of President in both along with other duties. She was the main drive in getting the Ladies VFW started in Mondovi in 1972. In 1989, she was picked as the VFW Citizen of the year. She bowled for many years with many trophy’s; 1st at the Valley and then at Club Ten. Keeping the family history was a big part of her life for the past 10 years. She also made sure that each new baby had their “Own Special Quilt”. Irene will be sadly missed by her children, Son, Raymond (Marjorie) of Strum, Terry Stiner of Mondovi; and Daughter-in-law, Kathy Crawford of Mondovi; grandchildren Peter (Terra) Crawford of Andover, MN; Paul (Lee-Ann) Crawford of Coon Rapids, MN; Jon (Kelly) Crawford of Chippewa, WI; Joshua (Tiffany) Crawford of New Prague, MN.; Jamie (Tanya) Crawford; Kari (Kevin) Kent; Tim Crawford, all of Mondovi, WI; Edward (Janice) Stiner of Weyauwega, WI; and Evan Stiner of Eau Claire, WI; 21 Great Grandchildren, 8 Step Great Grandchildren and one Great Great Grandchild. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, son Steven, brother Lawrence, and sister Marion Harris. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, April 12, 2014 at 11:00 AM at Our Saviors United Methodist Church with Pastor Dale Engen officiating. Burial will be at Oak Park Cemetery following the Service. A time of visitation and support will be held on Friday, April 11, 2014 at the Mondovi Funeral Home from 4 to 6 PM and again on Friday at 10:00 AM until the hour of the service at the church.
