George B. Schultz

George Bramwell Schultz, “Fish Tremble when they hear my name”, was born September 1st, 1925 in Omaha, NE to George and Mary “May” (Nicks) Schultz. The family moved to Mondovi when George was in grade school. He graduated from Mondovi High School in 1943 and was called to duty to the Navy while deer hunting in northern Wisconsin that fall. George was in the Navy Air Corps training to be a pilot when WWII ended. With the war over, the military offered him an early out, returning home to marry, Ellen Rockwell in 1946. For thirty years George owned Leinenkugel beer distributing company in Mondovi. In the late 70’s he started driving for Marten Transport, a job he did well and truly enjoyed. George’s CB handle was Tumbleweed, very fitting. Was a member of the Marten Transport Million Mile Club, finishing his career training drivers. Today he’s known for the years spent with Ellen managing the Mondovi Food Pantry. He loved fishing, camping, hunting, and flying, being happiest when doing a combination of any or all of them. At 10:00 AM weekdays he could be found downtown, shaking dice for coffee with his friends. He served the Lord in many capacities as a lifelong member of Zion Lutheran Church of Mondovi, serving on the church council as well as a Sunday school teacher. He also served his community in many capacities, most notably as the President of The Buffalo Memorial Hospital Board of Directors and the Gateway Area Council, BSA. George died peacefully on September 25th at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi. He’s survived by his wife of 66 years, Ellen; six children: Steve (Penny), Kathy Emmons, Chuck (Suzanne), John (Susan), Jim “Tiger” (Diane), Mary (Peter) Heck, 11 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren. Preceding George in death is his parents, infant brother Robert, brother LeRoy, son-in-law, Richard Emmons, mother and father in law, Houser and Estelle Rockwell, brother in law James Rockwell, and brother and sister in law Fred and Gwen Rockwell. Memorial service will be held on Monday, October 1 at 1:00 PM at Zion Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul Woebbeking officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 11:00 AM until the hour of the service at the church. Scenic Rivers Cremation Center, Mondovi assisted with arrangements.
