Gene Gustav Jonas

Gene Gustav Jonas, age 93, of Fountain City, passed away peacefully on Thursday, April 21, 2016 at St. Michael’s Assisted Living. He was born on June 20, 1922 in the Town of Alma, Buffalo County, WI a son of the late Gustav and Clara (Schmidt) Jonas. Gene attended and graduated from Gilmanton High School. On May 20, 1949, Gene was united in marriage to Margaret Heller in Cochrane. To this union, three children were born. Gene owned and operated a dairy farm in Buffalo County. After the sale of the farm, Gene purchased another farm in the Augusta, WI area. During his days in Buffalo County, Gene served as a Board Supervisor on the Town of Lincoln. Gene will be remembered for his love of the outdoors and the wildlife that nature provided. He was an avid deer hunter, never missing a season right up until he was 90 years old. He also enjoyed a great day on the water fishing. Gene was a man with a great work ethic, a wonderful sense of family and always there to lend a helping hand to anyone in need. In his later years, as his family tree expanded, his grandchildren and great grandchildren became an important part of his life. Gene will be dearly missed by his children, Geraldine “Geri” (Stephan) Michels of Green Bay, Faye Hinkley of Orlando, FL and Keith (Cindy) Jonas of Fairchild, WI; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; brother and sister in law, Marvin and Rose Heller of Praag, WI. Besides his parents, Gene was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 11:00 AM at St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Fountain City with Pastor Paul Jansen officiating. Burial will be at Zion Ev. Lutheran Cemetery in Cream, WI. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 26, 2016 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma Chapel and again on Wednesday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service at the church.
