Elvina I. Swenson

Elvina I. Swenson, age 92 of Mondovi, died on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the American Lutheran Home, Mondovi. She was born on September 15, 1924 in Osseo, the daughter of Esten and Inga (Mhyre) Estenson. Elvina graduated from Osseo High School. She later married Roger Swenson on November 15, 1943. After Roger and Elvina were married, they moved to San Antonio, Texas where Roger was stationed during the war. Once Roger was honorable discharged from the military, they moved back up to Wisconsin and resided in Black River Falls before moving to their permanent address of Mondovi. Elvina was a devoted and active member of Central Lutheran Church. Elvina was kind, patient and generous. She enjoyed spending time with the other residents at the Lutheran Home, chatting and visiting with as many as she could. Elvina was a very caring person, and faith and family were most important to her. Elvina will be sadly missed by her grandson, Eric (Andrea) Swenson and their son, Guy all of Hayward; daughter-in-law, Janice Swenson of Lookout; brothers, Wallace (Velda) Swenson and Alan (Faye) Swenson; several nieces and nephews; other relatives and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Roger; son, Paul and brothers, Earl and Arnold. A memorial service will be held at Talbot Family Funeral Homes - Mondovi Chapel on Monday, June 26, 2017 at 11:00 am with Pastor Rolf Morck of Central Lutheran Church officiating. Burial to immediately follow at Riverside Lutheran Church. A memorial gathering will be at the funeral home from 9:00 am until the hour of the service. The family would like to extend a special thank you to: the staff of the 3rd floor at the Mayo Health Systems, the Mayo Hospice staff especially, Mary, Amber and Maddie and the entire staff at the American Lutheran Home.

I first met her back in the late 70s when I started working for the City of Mondovi. Her son Paul worked there and her husband Roger worked for NSP. That was back in the day when NSP had a crew here in Mondovi and Roger would stop down to the city garage at break time and sometimes bring some of her good homemade baking along for us. After Paul got sick and was forced to retire Roger still stopped to visit with us. After he retired I would see the 2 of them at the store and would always have time to visit. After Roger passed away I would see her from time to time and yep always had time to visit. She was truely a great lady. Thoughts and prayers to the family.

I did not know Elvina until I joined the Mary Circle in 2013. She was a joy to have in the group and she always made sure we were well supplied with hard candy, especially the sugar-free lemon drops. Her faith was strong and I will miss her smile, and loving nature each time the Mary Circle meets.

One could never stop to visit without having a cup of coffee....no matter what time of day. She always had some kind of home made treat to go along with the coffee.
