Edmund Roy "Sonny" Hagen

Edmund Roy “Sonny” Hagen, age 90, of the Town of Modena, Buffalo County, passed away on Monday, June 22, 2015 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Eau Claire, with his family at his side. He was born on September 6, 1924, a son to the late Albert and Velma (Anderson) Hagen on the family farm in the Town of Modena. Sonny attended school at Modena through the 9th grade and then attended Alma High School, graduating with the Alma High School class of 1942. Around 1952, while Sonny was at the Fournier’s Ballroom in Eau Claire, he was introduced to Jean Isaacson and following a two-year courtship, Sonny and Jean became husband and wife on August 28, 1954 at the Pleasant Valley Lutheran Church in rural Eleva. Together, they raised and loved four children. Following their marriage, Sonny and Jean moved to the farm in “Poor Valley” in the Town of Modena where they have resided ever since. Along with farming, Sonny was the tax assessor for Buffalo, Trempealeau and La Crosse counties, serving as the assessor for 47 years. Sonny was a member of the Lyster Lutheran Church and was a former active member of The Gideons International. Sonny will be remembered by many for being a motorcycle enthusiast. He and his family took motorcycle vacations throughout the Western United States to parts such as Glacier National Park, visiting family in North Dakota and even to Banff, Alberta, Canada. He loved to tell stories to his grandchildren of how proud he was of his Norwegian heritage and his ancestry. His pride in his heritage was evident as he was a charter member of the Sons of Norway. Sonny will be mostly remembered for his deep devotion and love he had for his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Edmund Roy “Sonny” Hagen will be forever missed but always remembered by his wife of almost 61 years, Jean, of the Town of Modena; children, Pamela (Robert) Lewis of Eau Claire, Penny Hogan of Eau Claire, James (Kim) Hagen of the Town of Modena and Lori (Larry) Dunham of Foster, WI; grandchildren and great-grandchildren, Chris & Laurie Lewis, Jack and Sam; Brandon and Jessica Lewis, Lucy and Charlie; Trent and Luisa Lewis; Andrew and Amber Hagen, Mya and Grace; Kaleb Dunham, Tinley; Aaron and Jenny Hagen, Oliver; Allison and Brady Laufenberg, Kylie, Tripp and baby on the way; Amanda and Josh Zimmerman, Taylor and Addalyn; and Karalee Dunham; sister, Jurdis (Don) Mann; sisters-in-law, Myrna Hagen, Beverly Hagen, Elaine Hagen; brothers-in-law, August Schreiner, Gary (Irene) Isaacson and Darold (Arlene) Isaacson; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
