Delmer Carl Gottschalk, age 84 of Buffalo City, WI passed away peacefully on June 13, 2013 at St. Elizabeth Health Care Center in Wabasha where he was a resident since October 28, 2011. Delmer was born on May 19, 1929 in Marshland, WI to Edward and Myrtle (Loretz) Gottschalk. He attended Cochrane schools, graduating from Cochrane High School with the class of 1947. Delmer was drafted into the United States military as a member of the Army. He was a life member of the VFW Post 10406 of Cochrane. Following his service to his country, he began working for several different companies, as an iron worker and was proud to have helped build the I-90 bridge near La Crosse. He also worked at Clark electric doing residential electrical service and on the Dairyland Power construction project of the John Maggedt plant. Delmer then began his career as a self-employed electrician, retiring in the mid 1990’s. He was a member of the I.B.E.W. Union. Delmer’s hobbies included gardening, aeronautics, watching NASCAR races, and especially his Harley Davidson motorcycles that he bought over the years. Delmer will be remembered by his children for many attributes, like his soft spoken personality along with his humane heart for both people and his pets. He will be sadly missed by his two children, Wendy Salisbury of Minnesota City and Jim Gottschalk of Buffalo City; one sister, Darlene (Gale) Hoch of Alma and one brother, Ron (Nola) Gottschalk of Bettendorf, IA; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives, friends and his dear cat, China. Preceding Delmer in death were his parents Edward and Myrtle Gottschalk. A celebration to honor his life will be held on Monday June 17 at the VFW Hall in Cochrane at 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM with burial to follow at Buffalo City Cemetery with military honors provided by the VFW post 10406 upon arrival. The family of Delmer would like to take this opportunity to send a special and heartfelt thank you to the entire staff of St. Elizabeth Health Care Center for the devotion, love and special care given to him during his stay.
