Delbert John Nelson

Delbert John Nelson, of Mondovi , WI passed away November 27th, 2013 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi. He was born on May 20, 1932 at Luther Hospital in Eau Claire to Anton and Emily (Helgoe) Nelson. He married Majil Deutscher on June 9, 1956 and they raised their family in Modena on their family farm until they retired to Mondovi in 2007. Delbert graduated in 1950 from Mondovi High School where he lettered in Baseball and Basketball. He served as President of the FFA and received his American Farmer Degree. He enjoyed playing summer baseball for the Gilmanton Community team. He later graduated from Red Wing Vocational School’s driver training program and drove truck for Marten Transport. Through the years he served as President/Chairman of the Modena Lutheran Church, Modena Co-op Creamery, Central Livestock and Production Credit Association Board of Directors, Buffalo County ASCS and served as a board member for the Buffalo County Fair. Delbert sold seed for 49 years, first for Funks G Hybrid and then Pioneer Seeds. Beside his love of family and farming he enjoyed driving school bus and working as a driver evaluator for Marten Transport. He liked bowling, dancing, playing cards, and getting together with the guys at the early morning coffee clutch and with his fellow high school classmates. Delbert also had fond memories of his many travels throughout the United States. He especially appreciated all who showed up for his 80th Birthday celebration. He is survived by his wife Majil, Son John (Sheila), their children Nicholas and Emily; daughter Barb, her son Stephen; Son David (Dawn), their child Noah; Nephews Erik and Nathan Deutscher and their families and John and Joyce Bauer and their family. Delbert was preceded in death by his parents Anton and Emily, Father and Mother- in-law Orval and Viola Deutscher, Brother-in-law Chuck Deutscher and infant Sister in law, Bonnie Jean Deutscher. Visitation will be at Talbot Funeral Home in Mondovi, Sunday December 1st from 4 to 7. Services will be at Modena Lutheran Church at 11 AM December 2nd with visitation one hour prior. Burial will follow at Modena Lutheran Cemetery. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.talbotfuneralhomes.com. Memorial gifts may be given to the Modena Lutheran Church lift fund or a cause of the donor’s choosing.
