Dean Alan Schmitt, age 74, of Fountain City, passed away on Friday, January 6 at his home. He was born on March 7, 1937 at the home of his parents, Wilbert and Bertha (Bootie) Schmitt. Dean served our country as a member of the United States Army serving from March of 1957 until his honorable discharge in February of 1959. Dean was married to Lorraine Schmidtknecht and to this marriage, three children were born, they later divorced. On August 9, 1980 Dean was united in marriage to Mary Beck at St. John’s United Church of Christ. Dean was a long time and faithful employee of Warner and Sweasy/Badger Construction. He retired in May of 2000. Dean was a very dedicated sports enthusiast, with his teams being the Packers, Lakers and a proud “Yankee Man”. Dean will be remembered for his need for perfection, love of walking, being a “glorified” camper who always made sure the cooler was full, his strong, and giving heart that would give to those in need and his humane heart and love for dogs. Dean will be sadly missed by his wife of the past 31 years, Mary of Fountain City; his four children, Lisa Schmitt, of Rollingstone, Lee (Erin) Schmitt of Onalaska, Lance (Sara) Schmitt of Onalaska and Don (Lisa) Beck of Fountain City; six grandchildren, Adam and Carson Schmitt and Wessley and Avery Schmitt and Angela “the bear” and Jacob Beck; two sisters, Kay (Duane) Duellman of Fountain City and Peggy (Larry) Ebert of Winona; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Dean was preceded in death by his parents. A memorial service will be held Wednesday January 11 at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ with Pastor Gregory Ferriss officiating. Burial of Dean’s cremains will at Fountain City Public Cemetery at a later date. A memorial gathering of family and friends to celebrate the life of Dean will be held on Wednesday from 9:00 AM until the hour of the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, Dean’s family requests memorials to either the Fountain City First Responders
