Claire J. Stanton, age 81 of Waumandee, WI passed away on Wednesday April 24, 2013 at his home. He was born on December 2, 1931 in Durand, WI to the late Cashius and Gladys ( Wade) Stanton. It was with great prided that Claire honorably served our country during the Korean War as a member of the United States Army, earning the rank of Corporal. On June 15, 1953 Claire was united in marriage to Lorena Hoyt, together they had five children. Lorena preceded Claire in death on November 28, 2008. Claire was a faithful member of the VFW Post 10406 of Cochrane, WI. He had served many terms as the post commander and also as the VFW District Commander. Claire was influential in the inception of the Galesville VFW Post. Claire was employed as an L P truck driver before he began his career in 1961 as an implement mechanic at Scheidegger Implement in Waumandee. He retired in 1994. Claire will be remembered as a loving husband and dad but especially as a grandpa. The greatest memory of so many left to cherish was allowing his grandkids to eat endless bowls of popcorn and ice cream. In their eyes, he was the “funnest grandpa ever”. Claire never let anyone who was gracious enough to help him with a task, leave without telling them “thanks a million”. Claire will be deeply missed by his five children, Gordon (Becke) Stanton of Schoepps Valley, Mary Lou (Brad) Stewart of Fountain City, Penney Singer (special friend Scott) of Winona, Julie (Brian) Diekman of Winona, and James Stanton of Buffalo City. His eight grandchildren, Robin (Gary) Ruble, Nick (Heidi) Stanton, Cassie (Tom) Skwiot, Mandy Singer (special friend Tim VanRavenhorst), Matt (Tina) Stanton, Jessica Singer (special friend Shawn Wilbright), Michael (Janine) Stanton, and James Stanton. His eleven great grandchildren, one brother Robert (Gladys) Stanton of Dodge City, KS, and sister in law Wanda (Orville) Lafferty of Knapp, WI. Claire was preceded in death by parents and loving wife, Lorena. A memorial gathering will be held on Sunday April 28 at 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Cochrane Chapel and again one hour prior to the memorial service at 11:00 AM at St. John’s United Church of Christ in Fountain City, WI. Pastor Gregory Ferriss will officiate. Full military honors will be presented by the VFW Post 10406 of Cochrane with inurnment at the Waumandee Public Cemetery.
