Charles Woodrow Stuber

Charles Woodrow Stuber, age 93 of Mondovi, went home to meet his Lord and Savior early Wednesday morning, May 1, 2013 at Hillview Senior Care center. He was born on May 13, 1919 at home in the Town of Clear Creek, Eau Claire County a son of William and Adeline (Behlke) Stuber. Charles met his future wife, Vivian Voie at a barn dance and on November 27, 1940 at the Lutheran Church in Greenwood, WI. To this union, they raised nine children. Vivian preceded Charles in death on October 6, 2010. In his early life, Charles farmed until he went to work for a few years at Presto in Eau Claire. He then began a long and successful career at the former Mondovi Implement, now Tractor Central, retiring as the service manager. Charles was a long and devoted member of Zion Lutheran Church in Mondovi where he volunteered his time in many capacities serving as an Elder, church council and the church treasurer. Civically minded, Charles served on the Mondovi City Council and during his time on the farm, he served on the school board of the one room school. Charles was one of the first to own his own combine in Eau Claire County and would custom crop for farmers throughout the area, as far as Augusta. As an avid outdoorsman, Charles enjoyed his trips to Canada fishing or out West hunting. Charles will be remembered for his ability to fix or repair just about anything. He was the epitome of the “Jack of all trades’ kind of man. Charles was a man with a strong and tough exterior but deep down inside, especially since the loss of his wife Vivian, it became evident that there was a soft and tender spot in his heart. Charles is survived by his children, Sharry (Luther) Larson, Arlen (Diane), Larry (Karen) Eau Claire, Karen Wagner, all of Eau Claire, Carol (Ron)Hillman of Peoria, IL, Wayne (Pat) of Viroqua, Carlis (Faye) of Bloomington, MN, Janet (John) Just of Canoga Park, CA and Diane (Mike) Ashwell of Mondovi; 28 grandchildren; 37 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; sister in law June Dunn of Eau Claire; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Preceding Charles in death are his wife Vivian; son in law, Dale Wagner and grandson, Brian Stuber. A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 6 at 12:00 noon at Zion Lutheran Church, Mondovi with Pastor Paul Woebbeking officiating. Inurnment will follow at Oak Park cemetery. A memorial gathering will be held on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of the service. Online memories or condolences may be sent to www.talbotfuneralhomes.com
