Carl Emmons Brommer

Carl Emmons Brommer was born January 11, 1923, and died March 19, 2015, at age 91 while a resident of the American Lutheran Home. Carl lived in Winona, Minnesota with his family in his early years. Later he and his mother, Melvina Brommer, moved to a farm in the Alma area. Carl continued farming after his mother died, ending his farming by raising herefords at age 84 when he fell and broke his hip. The injury necessitated a move to an apartment in Mondovi and finally to the American Lutheran Home. Carl was a unique individual. He never saw a need to visit a doctor or a need for any medicine until breaking his hip in 2007. He was immersed in and enjoyed anything to do with nature on the farm. Each week day for many years he would do a “windshield survey” for whatever critters he could find when he was delivering Meals on Wheels to a local acquaintance. Participating in the annual sandhill crane count was something Carl looked forward to each April. Even after having to move away from the farm, he kept an eye out for birds and animals reporting the sightings to all who would listen. For many years Carl also spent hours walking the farm in search of arrowheads. Carl was a gentle, unassuming man and he will be missed. Carl is survived by a brother, Glenn, two nieces and two nephews. Besides his parents, Selmer and Melvina Brommer, one sister, Medira Wenger, two brothers, John and Kenneth, and one nephew predeceased Carl. There will be a private family burial at a later date.
