Betty J. Norby, age 88, of Mondovi, WI passed away on Friday, January 25, 2013 at Mayo Health System, Luther Campus, Eau Claire. Betty was born on November 21, 1924 in Mondovi a daughter of the late Oscar and Faye (Hurtley) Nyre. On Jan. 8, 1944, Betty was united in marriage to Gordon Norby at Central Lutheran Parsonage in Mondovi. To this union, three sons were born. Gordon preceded Betty in death on October 15, 2010. Betty attended and graduated from Gilmanton High School with the class of 1942. Betty held several different jobs around the Mondovi area, most notably, the Farmers store in Mondovi and the Mondovi Hospital, then in her later years she was employed at an Atlas company in several area western Wisconsin Counties. Her greatest love was the time she spent working side by side with her husband on the family farm. Betty was a life time and faithful member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, serving her church in as many ways as possible. She was also a very charitable and civic minded lady, volunteering her time on the election committee and Dover School. Betty will be remembered for her hospitality and kindness, always making sure those who visited were taken well taken care of. Betty’s memory will live on in the hearts of her entire family. She will be sadly missed by two sons, Ronald (Barbara) Norby of Eau Claire and Richard (Mary Lou) Norby of Mondovi; five grandchildren, Randolph Norby, Jeffrey Norby, Nathan (Patricia) Norby, Jacob Norby and Kimberly(Aly) Shariff; three step grandchildren, Pamela (Kent) Wright, Steven (Annette) Lowery and Cindy (Gene) LaRock; three great-grandchildren, Alex Marroquin; Derek Norby and Madeline Marroquin-Norby; 12 step-great-grandchildren; and six step-great-great-grandchildren; sisters in law, Cleo Serum and Dorothy Norby; one brother in law, Donald (Joannne) Norby; also by nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Besides her parents and husband, Gordon, one brother William Nyre and her son Jerome G. Norby preceded Betty in death. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 2 at 12:00 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church located at S750 County Road H (corner of County Road H and Z) Mondovi , with Pastor David Bangert officiating. A memorial gathering for family and friends will be held also at the church on Saturday, February 2 at 10:00 AM until the service at 12:00 PM. A private family graveside service will be held at a later date. Online memories or words of sympathy may be sent to www.talbotfuneralhomes.com. In lieu of flowers, Betty’s wishes were to have memorials made to the charity of donor’s choice. The staff of Scenic Rivers Cremation Center, Talbot Family Funeral homes, Mondovi Chapel, assisted the family with arrangements.
