Archie Orvin Rud

Archie Orvin Rud, age 87 of Eleva, WI passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at the American Lutheran Home in Mondovi, WI. Archie was born on August 2, 1926 to Ole and Anna (Benson) Rud at home in the Town of Drammen, in Eau Claire County. He was baptized, confirmed, and was a member of Drammen Lutheran Church. On July 25, 1964 Archie was united in marriage to Virginia Shelbred at Lake Street United Methodist Church in Eau Claire, WI. To this union, two loving sons were born. Archie had a variety of jobs ranging from working on the family farm, being a milk hauler, being employed at the Eau Claire paper mill, and later being a fuel delivery man and semi driver for Bergman Blacktop. He also planted and harvested soy beans for several years while working other jobs full time. Archie retired in 1977. Hobbies that Archie enjoyed were playing cards, mostly 500 and Hand n’ Foot, watching western movies, listening to old time music, and when he was younger dancing and playing his steel guitar at barn dances. Archie was also an avid Green Bay Packers and Minnesota Twins fan. Archie was a man who loved the rural lifestyle and his Norwegian heritage. He will be remembered for his humane love for his dogs and cats, sharing a good laugh with his family and friend, and as a good, honest and hardworking man with a strong faith and love for his Lord and Savior. The most cherished part of Archie’s life was his family, especially in his later years, when he became a grandpa to two precious granddaughters he loved so very much. Archie will be deeply missed by his beloved wife of 49 years, Virginia of Eleva; two loving sons, Melvin and his wife Eileen of St. Nazianz, WI and John and his wife Melinda and their daughters Micaela and Hannah of Rochester, MN; also by nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends. Besides his parents, Archie was preceded in death by his four brothers, Earl, Joseph, Orville and Edward and his two sisters, Irene and Ardella. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held on Sunday, December 22 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Mondovi chapel. There will also be a memorial gathering on Monday, December 23 at Drammen Lutheran Church starting at 1:00 PM prior to the 2:00 PM service. Burial will be at the church cemetery at a later date.
