Alfred Francis Everson, age 95 passed away peacefully on April 4, 2014 wife his wife at his side at Dove Healthcare West in Eau Claire. Alfred was born on October 21, 1917 in Eau Claire to Herman and Julia (Meyers) Everson. Alfred grew up in Eau Claire and graduated from Eau Claire Senior High School in 1935. After high school, he became a produce manager at the large A&P Store, now the Boy’s and Girl’s Club, before entering the military service in 1941. He graduated from Officer Candidate School in 1942 and was commissioned as a Lieutenant. He became a Forward Observer in the European War Theatre, and for his bravery in action, he was awarded first the bronze, and then the Silver Star. In 1945, Alfred returned home and soon married Bonnie Mae Ward in Mondovi while on leave. Bonnie and Alfred became parents to twins, a son and a daughter; Jack Alfred and Jill Ann. Bonnie died in 1973 and in 1975 Alfred married Virginia Hinz Schroeder in Mondovi. After his return to civilian life, Alfred apprenticed at Home Heating and began his carpentry career by building homes after work. He established Everson Cabinet Shop and built fine cabinets and homes in Eau Claire and the Mondovi area. He developed a reputation as a master carpenter and skilled craftsman. He retired in 1982. Alfred enjoyed many activities, above all fishing. He and Bonnie had spent many enjoyable summers fishing the lakes above Chetek. He also was active in both the Junior and Senior Ski Clubs of Eau Claire, serving as treasurer of both clubs. Alfred was also a member of Our Savior United Methodist Church in Mondovi. After marrying Virginia, he moved to Mondovi. He became an avid gardener, and could often be found fishing the Mississippi with his buddy Vern Wright. He also enjoyed building sets for ACT I, Mondovi’s fledgling drama group, with his buddy Harris Serum. Al enjoyed helping those who needed help especially older people. He had a great sense of humor and was a most modest man who could put others at ease. He was a kind father and grandfather, not only to his own children, but to the children of his wife Virginia, and to her stepchildren. In 2012 they moved to Eau Claire, where he lived for the remainder of his life. Alfred is survived by his wife Virginia, his son Jack (Colette) Everson, grandchildren Brian (Angie) Everson, Mark (Jill) Everson, Mark (Amy) Childs, Mike (Lori) Childs, Kristi Childs. His step children John (Judy) Schroeder, James (fiancée Delesa Boley) Schroeder, Bill (Ann) Schroeder, Katherine (Gene) Charles, and Kristine (Tomas) Anderson. Also his grandchildren Ryan (Katie) Schroeder, Sarah (Justin) Gehrke, Matt (Stacy) Schroeder, Pamela (Shaun) Schroeder, Kurtis Schroeder, Emilie Schroeder, Bill (Roxanne) Charles, Ben (Kim) Charles, Lisa (Robin) Heath, Krissy Andress. Also by several great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Alfred was preceded in death by his parents, his previous wife Bonnie, his daughter Jill, his brother John Everson, his sisters Ethel Watson and Mary Lou Everson. A visitation and funeral service will be at Our Saviors United Methodist Church in Mondovi, WI on Thursday April 10, 2014 at 9:30 AM until the time of service at 11:00AM with Pastor Dale Engen officiating. Talbot Family Funeral Homes of Mondovi assisted the family with arrangements. The Everson and Schroeder families wish to sincerely express their deep appreciation and gratitude for the loving, thoughtful and tender attention and care that was given to Alfred during his stay and final days at Dove Healthcare West.
