Doug and Genna Shawley

Douglas Michael "Doug" Shawley, 30, and Genevieve Marie "Genna" Shawley, 2, both of Buffalo City, sadly passed away together in a tragic house fire on Tuesday morning, December 12, 2017. Doug was born on March 7, 1987 in Wabasha, MN, the son of Mike and Elly (Gile) Shawley. For nearly a decade, Doug was a proud soldier of the 327th Army Reserve. Doug was an avid fisherman and outdoorsman. He loved the Green Bay Packers and spent his Sundays cheering them on. On November 30, 2013 Doug married his long time true love Brittney Bignell. Doug and Brittney began their family with Doug’s son Dawson and Brittney’s son Austin. Their family grew from there, with the addition of their two daughters Sopheea and Genna. Doug’s family was his life. Nothing can ever replace the love and devotion he had for them. Doug’s radiant smile, beautiful heart, and gentle soul will be missed by all. Genna was born on July 20, 2015, in Winona, MN. Genna was Doug's sidekick; wherever Doug went, Genna was there with him. Her favorite color was blue, but more importantly, her favorite word was, "no". Genna was a very independent little lady and would rather hang out with daddy, then other kids. Genna’s infectious smile and spunky personality will be dearly missed by a world that was just getting to know her. Doug is survived by his wife, Brittney Shawley; children, Dawson Jae Olson, Austin Michael Bignell, Sopheea Maelee; parents, Elly and Keith Poppe and Mike and Gwen Shawley; parents-in-law, Mike and Rhonda Bignell; siblings, Jessica Shawley, Lindsay Shawley, Zac Shawley; grandpa, Bill Shawley; aunts and uncles, Diane Januesheske, Tammy (John) Bingham, Ann Gile, Pat (Jesse) Sackett, Mike (Rhonda) Flick and Steve (Michelle) Shawley; nieces and nephews; numerous other relatives and dear friends. He was preceded in death by his grandmothers, Mary Hammon and Mary Shawley; aunts, Barb Czarnik and Betsy Santucci and uncle, Danny Gaulke. A memorial gathering was held at the Cochrane VFW on Saturday, December 16, 2017 from 12:00 pm - 3:00 pm and concluded with Military Honors.
