Derold Victor McDonough, age 89, of the Town of Nelson, Buffalo County, WI passed on Wednesday June 6, 2018 at Pepin Health and Rehab in Pepin Wisconsin. He was born on November 1, 1928 in Modena, a son of the late John and Wilma (Breidung) McDonough. On November 30, 1951, Derold was united in marriage to Wilma Black in Wabasha, MN. To this union 5 children were born. Wilma preceded Derold in death on June 1, 2010. Derold and his wife bought their farm in Norwegian Valley in 1955. Derold owned his own trucks, which he used to haul milk, logs and stones. Later, he worked as the manager at the Alma Farmers Union, Nelson Branch and later was the owner of McDonough repair. As much as he devoted his time to his trucks, Farmers Union and repair shop, Derold would still find time to tend to his farm milking cows and doing chores. Derold was a longtime and faithful member of Lyster Lutheran Church where he served on the church council. As a civic minded man, Derold found time to serve on the Nelson Fire Department, was a member of the Nelson Lions Club and the Chippewa Valley Antique Tractor Club. Derold had many passions, some of which was showing antique tractors at the Minnesota State Fair, tractor pulls both as a spectator and a participant and mostly attending auctions throughout the area. While at the Pepin Manor, Derold found enjoyment attending Friday music day. Derold’s most treasured passion was time he spent with family and friends He is survived by his children, Betty (Clayton) Steele; Robert (Karen) McDonough; Steven McDonough; Gary (Jennifer) McDonough and Dale (Malinda) McDonough; Grandchildren and great grandchildren, Katherine (Tim) Robelia and Amber and Jacob; Craig (Sara) Steele and Anika and Ava; Dustin (Samantha) Steele and Clay and Camden; Christina (Kyle)Hunt and Cade and Christopher; Melanie (Kevin) Robelia and Callie; Shannon McDonough (Bradley Lambert) and Gage; Patrick (Shawna) McDonough and Brylee and Makenna; Melissa McDonough; Aaron (Jodi) McDonough and Zane and Natalie; Kendra McDonough and Hailey; Chely McDonough; and Heather Steele former wife of Jamie and Lane, Keira, Anna and Lucy; also by his siblings, John McDonough; Patricia Schreiber and his brother in law and sister in law Earl and Bonnie Black along with many nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Besides his parents and beloved wife, Wilma, Derold was preceded in death by his grandson, Jamie Steele; brother and his wife, Howard (Lyla) McDonough; brother in law, Leonard Schreiber and his brother in law and his wife Bill and Susie Black. Funeral services will be held on Monday, June 11, 2018 at 11:00 AM at the Lyster Lutheran Church with Pastor Michael Vetsch officiating. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at the Talbot Family Funeral Home, Alma, WI and at the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. The family of Derold McDonough would like to take this special opportunity to express their gratitude to both the staff of the Pepin Health and Rehab and St. Croix Hospice for the exceptional and loving care given to him.
